When Thomas Le attended a local concert in his hometown of Panama City, Florida, last fall, he had no idea that the footage he filmed would land him third place in Listen Carefully’s video contest!
His short video “Effects,” takes us front and center to one of the loudest places we can be: the concert venue. Through the process, Le learned statistics that helped alter his views on loud sounds and how they impact hearing, like how 1 in 6 teenagers has noise-induced hearing loss from loud sounds.
When asked what teens can do to protect their ears, Le emphasized taking ownership. “I think teens should be more responsible when attending a concert or listening to music. Almost everyone I know will listen to music very loud and carelessly, which could cause hearing loss.”
Promoting the film helped hundreds of people watch his video and learn the message, one Le hopes they will take to heart. “ I wanted the audience watching to experience what it was like to lose their hearing in a real life situation.”
A piano player since the age of five, Le credits music as a large influence in his life. He loves every genre (and has been listening to Rae Stremmurd, Carnage, The Weeknd, and Aloe Blacc lately), and hopes his future career involves music.
